So what's new for the next installment of the GTA series? We can expect a major shift in the way the game is played. For the first time we'll be switching between three members of a crew to play the game, with each character representing different types of crime in Los Santos.
Franklin: The youngest protagonist, Franklin is a hustler working as a repo-man for a shady Armenian car dealer selling cars to people who can't afford them. He is fit, ambitious and the most capable member of your crew. Expect Franklin to get his hands dirty for you a great deal.
Trevor: A former military pilot and recreational drug user, Trevor is the embodiment of chaos. He's the kind of hellraiser rebel we've come to know and love from the GTA series. In one scene he douses a truck with gasoline before casually setting it alight with a Zippo.
Michael: A retired bank-robber, living in luxury in a new area known as Rockford Hills thanks to a deal made with the FIB to place him in witness protection. He lives with his wife, who he doesn't like, and his children who he doesn't understand. Despite living the high-life Michael pays a high-price for it working to keep the FIB and his family happy.
The Map:
GTA just keeps getting bigger! GTA V's map is said to be bigger than the combined area of Red Dead Redemption, GTA IV and San Andreas. As we already know GTA V's location returns to Los Santos, but unlike with San Andreas the action does not take place over multiple cities but instead concentrates on Los Santos and it's surrounding area. The map is a more faithful rendition of Los Angeles, much as they did for LA Noire. In fact Rockstar went as far as taking over a quarter of a million photos of LA and used census data to get the most accurate depiction possible. Mt. Chiliad makes its return, surrounded by a varied countryside, sprawling from thick wilderness to wine country. There's still a hidden military base to break into, plus lots of new interiors, including an emphasis on gameplay featuring a convenience store. There is also a brand new fully-explorable ocean.
Vehicles:
GTA wouldn't be GTA without an exhausting list of vehicles to trash. GTA V of course boasts more overall vehicles than any previous title. There's no full list as such yet, but it is confirmed that the types include the usual cars, trucks, motorbikes, helicopters, BMX's, mountain bikes, road bikes, planes, ATV's and jet skis. We're guessing certain types of vehicle will be restricted to certain characters. For example aircraft may well need Trevor's flight experience.
New Features:
Expect lots more 'Three Leaf Clover' type heist missions. Tennis, yoga, triathlons, base jumping and a full game of golf are some of the mini-games you'll be playing. No property purchases this time, although there is apparently plenty more to buy in the game, but it's not yet know exactly what. Some of the characters from GTA IV and its episodes will return, although not Niko. Your phone can now access the internet. Plenty of scope for comedy value there! Red Dead Redemption style side missions, where NPC's randomly appear asking for your help. This could include muggings to hitch-hikers. There's even one involving two abandoned cars surrounded by lots of dead people. Casual encounters with NPC's around the world, including charming touches like flipping the bird and having a quick chat. Extending Rockstar's trend of increasing quality acting talent in their games, even the NPC's are now motion captured for added facial realism.
